The short version: Stepback collects nothing. Your data stays on your device, we run no servers, and we couldn't read your information even if we wanted to.
Nothing. Stepback has no user accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no ads, and no servers of our own. Everything you enter in the app — check-ins, bets, moods, notes, reflections, goals, your reason for quitting — is stored only in the app's local storage on your device. It is never transmitted to us or anyone else.
You can optionally set a passcode in the app, which encrypts all locally stored data using AES-256 encryption. The encryption key is derived from your passcode and never leaves your device. If you forget your passcode, your data cannot be recovered — by you, by us, or by anyone.
Optional subscriptions (Stepback Plus) are processed by Apple through your App Store account. To validate purchases, an anonymous purchase receipt is processed by RevenueCat, our billing provider. This includes no personal information and none of your recovery data — RevenueCat sees only that an anonymous app installation bought a subscription. See RevenueCat's privacy policy. Payment details (your card, billing address) are handled entirely by Apple and are never visible to us.
You can export all of your data as a file, or permanently erase it, at any time from the app's Settings. Deleting the app deletes all of its data. Because we hold no copy of anything, there is nothing for us to delete, retain, or hand over.
Stepback links to third-party support resources (such as the National Problem Gambling Helpline, Gamblers Anonymous, and blocking tools). Calling, texting, or visiting those services is governed by their own privacy policies. The app does not share anything with them and does not know whether you contacted them.
Stepback is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 17.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date. Since the app's design makes data collection impossible without a fundamental rebuild, meaningful changes are unlikely.
